Students participating in this virtual learning can expect a rigorous education of both "live" and "on-demand" instruction. Both PCVA and Edgenuity are courses that are taught by local PCS teachers while NCVPS is the state online platform that uses certified teachers from around NC. A blend of PCVA, NCVPS, and Edgenuity will be used to provide supplemental elective options. PCVA will remain an opportunity for students who demonstrate the appropriate responsibility in taking control of their own education by actively engaging in course activities and work while also being academically successful.įor students in grades 4-8, PCVA will use PCS teachers to provide instruction in the 4 core areas (ELA, math, science and Social Studies). Although flexibility is afforded to these students, the expectation is for virtual learners to take their education seriously. Students are afforded the opportunity to flexible learning at home or wherever they feel creates the best learning environment for them. As PCVA participants, students are not required to come to the school campus to receive their instruction. In a world of cookie cutter schooling, we are thrilled to have found this school for our child who broke the mold. And if you're in the area, field trips are another possibility. The icing on the cake are the in-person intensives offered each semester - a chance for students, parents, and faculty to be together. The teachers build relationships with each student surprisingly well in this virtual environment. Our student accesses classes virtually, and the small class size is the perfect fit. As parents to a 2e (twice exceptional) child, we were looking for flexibility, respect, accountability, individualization, acceleration, support, etc - basically Goldilocks conditions. Everything about this virtual/hybrid school is an amazing fit for our family. Parent: We had experience with private in person, public charter, and homeschool for our child when we found Scholars Academy for their 6th grade year. But if you want to go to Harvard to be an athlete, this school isn't for you. Multiple students have graduated and gone right into the work force with good, high paying trade jobs. If you or your child isn't college bound, this is the school for them. Most classes will have some overlap in different grades electives will often be an even mix of grades 9-12, and core classes will have two different grades in depending on students' skill levels. The school is small, and the current building is also small, but classes aren't cramped. School life is very diverse, from race, gender, economic class and LGBT students in the school. Staff are friendly and supportive, and allow students to have room to be creative and expressive. There are plenty of trades you can enter into before graduation, (some as early as freshman year), get support for college, or just be prepared for life beyond graduation. Senior: Apprentice Academy High School is very good at preparing you for life after graduation. I think that helps a lot because that way if any students isn’t able to eat at home because they go to work right after school, it helps them have something in they’re stomach. Other students from other schools don’t eat their school food or they have to buy because of the reason that their school food is not good. Also after school tutoring or Saturday academy where if you are struggling in a subject you can do either or to help you catch up and understand the subject you’re not getting. The teachers there make it comfortable for you to talk to them if you know anything is wrong or if you need help with any time of work. Great environment even for students that are antisocial, it helps them be social and get rid of anxiety. Senior: Very good school, little amount of students in each class which gives it better opportunities for students to learn better.
